After a hiatus for surgery, I am back!

The last time I wrote about my health adventure, in the blog article "Getting Fit With an E-Bike," I had stated that I am overcoming some physical health issues. I am happy to report that I am currently on the next phase of my healing journey to better living. I dropped upwards of 50 lbs, and had my surgery to fix my umbilical hernia.  I now have a scar where my bulge once was, and I am slowly recovering.  I had a couple of people, including my fellow co-workers, kindly express their support, and have definitely noticed a difference!  I thank them for their kind words of encouragement!

While I am happy I've made progress, I now have to start the slow rebuild of gaining core muscle strength from a lack of exercise when I had my hernia.  Another respecting the post-surgery notes from my surgeon. I cannot lift anything over 10 lbs, and I have dissolving stitches both on the outside on my initial incision, as well as inside, holding my abdominal muscles together.

Here is my dilemma. I can't shift any excess weight to one particular side of my body, or the stitches will be undone! I cannot do weights, complex ab-work, or oblique work the So what can I do to activate and strengthen my core, while not stressing it with weight?

Why, riding an e-bike, of course!  One of the best ways to work your core is through cycling, as engaging your core helps burn fat, and strengthen your abdominal muscles. (1). In turn, your abdominal muscles and your core help immensely with your balance!

The Biktrix Stunner Cruiser E-Bike - the epitome of comfort.

The Biktrix Stunner Cruiser E-Bike, Biktrix's most comfortable e-bike to ride, offers a relaxed, sit-up-straight, no-crunch stress on the core. You can relax your arms, let the throttle do some of the assist, and just pedal. You engage your core, but you don't need to add the extra stress, and full body oblique movements from a standing position on a mountain bike with high resistance, or in a hunched huddle position of a thin-wheeled city-bike. Isolating that core to start, without adding any extra strain on the ab muscles, then slowly graduating to a more traditional ride position as healing progress, is precisely what these Biktrix bikes can allow riders like me to pull off, that you simply cannot pull off with a regular bicycle.

The Biktrix Thunder Recumbent E-Trike. Lay back, pedal, and fly!

Another option for me would be the Biktrix Recumbent E-Trike, rightly named the "Thunder."  The ability for it to have the height of the seat, as well as the angle of the seat being adjustable, opens up the ability for me to lounge back and pedal.  I am still utilizing my core as it takes stability to pedal. But, the ability to lie back means that there would not be any extra muscles or movements that would cause extra stresses on the core.  Now, when you add that this recumbent e-trike generates 80Nm of torque, and has several levels of pedal assist, it will be easy to isolate the muscles needed, and still keep up a great speed to where I need to go.

The electric aspect to our e-bikes provide a rehabilitating element to people who need it, as well as people who are just looking for a more controlled and more meaningful workout. This works with recovery, rehabilitation, high-resistance muscle-failing strength training, fat-and-muscle-burning mega-sweat workouts, everything a person would possibly need in a bicycle, and more.

My particular situation fits well within the e-bike solution.  We wish you health and happiness, but if you are also in something of a situation, and you are at all interested in the options Biktrix has available, by all means, CONTACT US.  We believe that health, fitness, and freedom are important to a good life, and we believe in one's independence, because it's worth fighting for.

Thanks for reading!
